About
Bovey Castle
Located within 275 acres of rolling countryside in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, Bovey Castle is one of the South West’s most prestigious luxury country estate hotels and event venues, combining historic grandeur, five-star hospitality and extensive leisure facilities within a spectacular rural setting. Originally opened in 1930 as a luxury railway hotel, the Grade II* listed estate has evolved into one of Devon’s most iconic hospitality destinations, renowned for luxury stays, weddings, corporate retreats and exclusive-use events.
Blending Jacobean-inspired architecture with contemporary luxury interiors, the estate offers elegant reception rooms, fine dining restaurants, championship golf, spa facilities and extensive outdoor activities across Dartmoor National Park. Unlike many traditional country house hotels, Bovey Castle combines heritage luxury with a much more experiential and activity-led guest offering, making it particularly attractive for residential conferences, leadership retreats and immersive hospitality events.
Event Spaces
The Cathedral Room
At the heart of the estate’s event offering is the dramatic Cathedral Room, the venue’s largest and most impressive event space. Featuring double-height ceilings, tall windows, a grand fireplace and Minstrels’ Gallery, the room is designed for conferences, gala dinners, weddings and large-scale celebrations. The space accommodates up to 120 guests seated and creates one of the most visually striking event environments in Devon.
The Adam Room
The Adam Room offers a more intimate and elegant environment suited to private dining, drinks receptions, networking events and smaller ceremonies. Positioned within the manor house, the room combines refined interiors with views across the surrounding estate.
The Library
One of the venue’s most characterful spaces, the Library provides a warm and intimate atmosphere ideal for executive meetings, private dining and smaller celebrations. Featuring estate views, a fireplace and direct access to the South Terrace, the room works particularly well for boutique hospitality events.
Outdoor Estate & Summerhouse
The estate’s landscaped grounds, terraces and Summerhouse provide exceptional settings for outdoor ceremonies, drinks receptions and summer events overlooking the Dartmoor valleys. Outdoor experiences form a major part of the Bovey Castle guest experience.
Corporate Retreats & Team Building
Alongside weddings and private events, Bovey Castle regularly hosts leadership retreats, residential conferences and corporate hospitality events. Activities including falconry, off-road driving, golf, archery and spa experiences can all be incorporated into event programmes.
Accommodation
The estate offers approximately 60 luxury bedrooms and suites within the main castle alongside 22 self-catering country lodges positioned throughout the grounds. The lodges provide additional residential flexibility for multi-day events and group stays.
Dining & Leisure
The venue features fine dining restaurants, spa facilities, an 18-hole championship golf course and extensive countryside activity programmes. The experiential nature of the estate is one of its strongest differentiators within the luxury events market.
Facilities and Services
Bovey Castle offers luxury accommodation, private dining, conferencing facilities, golf and spa access, outdoor activity programmes, dedicated event coordination and exclusive-use event capability. Its combination of luxury hospitality, countryside experiences and heritage architecture positions it as one of the UK’s leading luxury rural event venues.
