About
Exeter Phoenix
Located in the heart of Exeter’s cultural quarter on Gandy Street, Exeter Phoenix is one of the South West’s leading independent arts and event venues, combining live performance spaces, cinema facilities, creative studios and flexible event areas within a vibrant multi-purpose arts centre. Originally developed from Exeter’s former University theatre complex, the venue has evolved into a major cultural hub hosting conferences, live music, screenings, networking events, private hire functions and creative productions.
Blending industrial character with contemporary arts infrastructure, Exeter Phoenix offers a highly flexible and creative environment suited to everything from corporate presentations and workshops through to festivals, private parties and live entertainment. The venue’s independent identity and diverse event spaces make it particularly attractive for organisations and clients seeking a more cultural and experience-led venue.
Positioned within walking distance of Exeter Central Station and Exeter Cathedral, the venue benefits from strong city-centre accessibility whilst offering a distinctive alternative to traditional conference and hotel venues.
Event Spaces
The Auditorium
At the centre of the venue is the main Auditorium, a large live performance and event space designed for concerts, theatre, presentations, conferences and screenings. Equipped with professional staging, lighting and sound infrastructure, the space offers excellent flexibility for both cultural programming and corporate events.
Studio Spaces
Exeter Phoenix also offers a collection of smaller studio and workshop spaces suitable for meetings, rehearsals, breakout sessions, training events and creative workshops. These spaces support a wide variety of event formats and can operate independently or alongside larger venue hires.
Facilities and Services
The venue includes dedicated cinema and screening spaces equipped for film presentations, talks, launches and private screenings. These facilities make Exeter Phoenix particularly attractive for media, education and creative sector events.
Café Bar & Social Areas
Supporting the event spaces are informal café bar and lounge areas creating relaxed networking and breakout environments. These social spaces contribute to the venue’s creative atmosphere and work particularly well for receptions and informal gatherings.
Creative & Cultural Events
Alongside private hire, Exeter Phoenix hosts a year-round programme of live music, comedy, theatre, exhibitions, workshops and festivals, giving the venue a highly energetic and artistic identity within Exeter’s cultural scene.
Exeter Phoenix offers professional AV and production support, staging, cinema facilities, flexible room layouts, catering options and dedicated event coordination. Its combination of creative infrastructure and city-centre location makes it particularly attractive for arts organisations, educational events, networking gatherings and contemporary corporate functions.
The venue’s blend of cultural programming, flexible event spaces and independent identity positions it as one of Exeter’s most distinctive multi-purpose venues.
