ExCeL London Targets US Growth as Global Demand for Live Events Continues to Rise

ExCeL London Targets US Growth as Global Demand for Live Events Continues to Rise

ExCeL London is strengthening its focus on the North American market as demand for international business events continues to grow, with the venue positioning itself as a key gateway for US organisations looking to host events in Europe.

Speaking ahead of a UK trade mission to Los Angeles, ExCeL London CEO Jeremy Rees highlighted the growing importance of face-to-face events, arguing that advances in artificial intelligence are making in-person connections more valuable rather than less.

The venue has invested £350 million into its Royal Docks campus, including the completion of a new 25,000 square metre expansion that has created Europe's largest fully integrated convention and exhibition centre. The additional capacity allows ExCeL to attract larger international congresses and exhibitions while supporting London's continued growth as a global events destination.

The investment is already delivering results. ExCeL has secured a record programme of international congresses, is welcoming increasing numbers of US-based organisers and has recently confirmed major future events, including the return of Cisco Live to London from 2027.

Jeremy Rees believes that while technology continues to transform the way businesses communicate, it cannot replace the value of bringing people together.

Instead, AI is changing how people work, leaving live events to deliver something technology cannot replicate – genuine conversations, unexpected introductions and the relationships that often lead to new business opportunities.

As international organisers continue to invest in flagship events, London's appeal remains stronger than ever, with venues such as ExCeL demonstrating that demand for world-class meeting and exhibition space continues to grow alongside advances in digital technology.
